TonyBet Canada Review 2024

New to the Canadian betting 'grey market', based in Estonia, TonyBet only entered in a big way in 2021.  TonyBet made serious media buys across Canadian television and radio stations for their free to play TonyBet.net site, which is likely why you are looking to check up on them.  TonyBet was founded in 2011 by Antanas Guoga, a Lithuanian businessman and professional poker player. He built up the Lithuanian version of TonyBet to a significant level.  So much so that he was able to sell it to Betsson AB for an initial €4 million, (rising to €6 million) in 2016.  However, this Betsson AB version of TonyBet is not what players in Canada get to use.  Canadians get the Estonian operator that remains and serves an 'international' audience. Let's get into our TonyBet Canada review of this Estonian operator.

TonyBet Grade

• European sports & leagues take site focus, not Canadian favourites.

• Poor odds value on most popular sports for Canada.

• Limited CAD banking options compared to top operators.

Is TonyBet legit or a scam? Should you play at TonyBet from Canada?

No, we do not recommend TonyBet for our Canadian audience. That's our opinion.  While they are 'legit' and not a 'scam' in that they are a betting site that should not just essentially steal your money like 1XBET might, unfortunately however, TonyBet offers very poor odds and they did not tailor their site to Canadian tastes at all despite their huge marketing spend here in Canada. In not tailoring their Canadian site version properly, you will note that their convenience links for leagues and sports look like they were positioned for a European audience, not a Canadian one.  In other words, there are so many superior options to TonyBet for Canadian players.

Is TonyBet legal in Ontario?

On December 5, 2022, TonyBet gained their AGCO license toward becoming one of many legal Ontario betting sites and their platform is now live and running.

Can people across Canada still play at TonyBet?

Yes.  People in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces and territories can play on their Kahnawake-based site.  The Ontario site is only for people 19+ and physically located within Ontario. However, neither of TonyBet's platforms are recommended for play from Canada.  Read about our top betting sites in Canada for the best providers for players outside Ontario. Read on below for why TonyBet is not a recommended brand by SNBET.

How are TonyBet Canada odds? They're poor where it matters most for Canadians

On what would be the most popular betting markets in Canada on the 'top four' leagues of the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB, TonyBet offers margins around 7%, when most reasonably competitive sportsbooks are around 5%.  That means their "sportsbook hold" is 40% higher than the reputable brands for Canada or Ontario.  Have a look for yourself, you will see odds that can look like 1.87/1.87 or -115/-115 on a point spread or totals market.  Odds with competitive margins should be closer to 1.90/1.90 or -110/-110 or better, at our recommended brands.  When you have consistently low odds like this at a brand like TonyBet, you really need to win a lot more often in order to remain profitable.  There is almost no chance of that with these odds if you play at TonyBet and these are your sports of interest, as we would expect it to be for most Canadians and Ontarians.  You just don't get good value at TonyBet on North American leagues and sports. This is the biggest reason not to play there.

Does TonyBet offer CAD accounts & payment methods?

Yes. We will give TonyBet credit for this. They are not trying to make money from Canadians through currency exchange fees by only offering USD and EUR accounts.  They offer Canadian Dollar account balances and many CAD payment methods that include Interac e-transfers, the e-wallet known as "Payz", debit solutions iDebit and Instadebit, prepaid solution paysafecard and the MuchBetter e-wallet app, among others.  Like all providers, they support Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards. Remember, given the fees and interest rates associated with credit card usage at any iGaming site from Canada, we would not recommend their use on an ongoing basis at any site. Note that TonyBet's payment methods for their legal Ontario site is much more narrow than those listed above for the "rest of Canada".

TonyBet Canada bonus offer

TonyBet offers a bonus for new customers up to $350.  However, they only offer 14 days to satisfy the wagering requirements of the bonus, which are five times the amount of your initial deposit.  In other words, the bonus offer may not be easily achievable for some bettors. Find more achievable Canadian sportsbook bonuses and a comparison of their important terms and conditions.

TonyBet Canada's other available iGaming types

Like just about every online sportsbook provider, TonyBet Canada looks to offer both online RNG casino games and live-dealer casino games.  They are not among the top options that we would identify in the market, but they do offer them.

TonyBet Canada esports betting

TonyBet Canada does cover esports.  Rather than cover it under the heading of 'Esports', they actually use the name of the given game in their A-Z navigation.  At the time of our review, we found reasonable coverage of current and soon-to-start CS:GO, LoL, DOTA2, Starcraft, Rocket League, and FIFA events at TonyBet.  Some events had only a handful of betting markets, while others had a reasonably good selection.  We did however note an absence of outright event winner markets - something that is offered at the best sites.  The biggest problem we had with TonyBet esports betting was not with their coverage, but their odds margins, which hover around the 9% to 10% region for most betting markets. Compare this to margins near 6% at most of our top Ontario esports betting sites.  The operators here offer exceedingly good esports betting experiences.

TonyBet Canada bottom line: stay away

Despite these significant and obviously negative points mentioned above, you will find plenty of positive "reviews" for TonyBet Canada from various affiliate marketers that couldn't care less about your experience.  Just see how many of them try to answer questions about: 'Is TonyBet a scam?' Since the review sites just want to refer you as a player for a fee, they all say: 'It's totally legit' or some similar non-sense. Don't bother with sportsbook review sites that are positive about each and every site about which they "pass judgment". Read our highly refined list & reviews of the absolute best Canadian betting sites, all of which have rock-solid reputations, support CAD accounts & payment methods like Interac among others.

In our opinion, with poor odds and a site that appears to be meant for Europe, there are so many superior sports betting sites that you could choose, no matter where you live in Canada.
