Thanks to the now fully regulated market for online betting & casino operators in Ontario, PayPal is now available as a payment method for said operators to offer their players. To date however, very few legal Ontario betting sites and casino brands have moved to offer PayPal. Of our recommended Ontario sportsbook & casino operators, only bet365 and BetRivers support PayPal for deposits or withdrawals (Our #1 & #4 Ontario betting brands). Why? PayPal never served Ontario's former "grey market" for online gambling payments, but other bank debit & transfer methods like Interac, iDebit & Instadebit did serve it. As a result, Ontario customers are far more familiar with these other methods for online sportsbook & casino payments. Their popularity has continued into the new legal Ontario market, as they are widely supported as compared to PayPal. Within PayPal's own rules, PayPal states that it will only offer its service to merchants that provide online gambling products like, sports betting, casino or poker games, as licensed operators that serve fully legal and regulated local markets, and can show that the given operator can prevent US players from using the given online gambling platform.
Prior to the launch of iGaming Ontario, operators in April 2022, outside of the online gambling offerings at OLG.ca, all other sports betting sites or casino sites that served people in Ontario, were doing so from their international online gambling jurisdictions, like Kahnawake, Gibraltar, or Malta, etc. These sites are often referred to as "offshore" or "grey market" gambling sites. Put simply, PayPal decided long ago that they would not facilitate payments in situations like these.
They would only ever facilitate payments for the purposes of online gambling if the customer or player was in a jurisdiction where the given operators were fully licensed and allowed to operate by local online gambling regulatory frameworks. Since Ontario had no such framework or market of legal operators prior to April 2022, Ontarians have had to use payment methods that would facilitate payments to "grey market" or "offshore" merchants as gambling providers.

If you like PayPal as a general payment solution, there are very few things that could be said against PayPal as an online payment provider toward legal Ontario gambling providers. Payments are quick and secure. Withdrawals made back to your PayPal account from your legal Ontario player account will land usually on the same day. We've seen maximum PayPal deposits or withdrawals as high as $12,500, as found with bet365 Ontario.
The only small point we would mention is one that might affect players intending to deposit a relatively small amount of money for their bankroll. Most minimum deposit levels for other payment methods in Ontario tend to be around $10 per deposit. With PayPal however, the minimum deposit level can be around $40. It would seem that PayPal is expensive for operators to offer to their players, so they want to make sure deposits reach at least this level. So if you only wish to deposit $10, $20 or $30, PayPal may not be available for you at your chosen operator.
