PressEnter closes Nitro Casino Ontario after less than 3 months of operation

December 29, 2022

Malta-based igaming operator PressEnter Group, has announced the closure of its iGaming Ontario online casino brand, NitroCasino.ca, less than three months after the site had launched.

On October 13 of this year, on its Twitter account, iGaming Ontario announced that Nitro Casino had launched its casino-only site on their regulated platform.  In late December, NitroCasino.ca posted their message of closure, which read as follows:

Sadly, NitroCasino,ca will close on 30 Decemeber 2022. This means that deposits and game play has stopped.  Please withdraw any remaining funds in your account.

If you have issues withdrawing your remaining balance, our support team is available via live chat or email to support@nitrocasino.ca. Our email will remain open after 30 Decemeber 2022 if you need further assistance.

This marks the first closure of an iGaming Ontario brand.  There has been no immediate comment from PressEnter on the reasons behind the decision to close the Ontario-facing site so soon after its launch.  However, there was some news posted on their own corporate website on November 28 surrounding a management-led buyout of the company, with the CEO set to take on the additional role of Executive Chairman.

While it would be speculation, based on the dates of the events at hand, it appears that PressEnter Group's management may wish to move away from operating in various locally regulated markets as shown with this step.  The return on investment in a regulated market where 20% of revenue is shared with the province, while in competition with numerous legal Ontario online casinos may not be at the level at which the new owners and management wish to pursue.

The company's NitroCasino.com international casino site run from the Malta Gaming Authority continues to accept Canada-based players located outside of Ontario.
