International Rugby match betting: Ontario vs. the rest of CanadaWhether you're a native Canadian that loves rugby, or you've landed from a nation that's crazy about rugby and you're looking to bet on rugby matches within an international competition, know that Canada now has two separate market segments for online betting: Ontario, where there is a fully regulated local market, and the "rest of Canada" via the "grey market". To help our readers, above our International rugby match odds, if you are in Ontario, we show you our recommended legal Ontario betting sites. If you are elsewhere, we display the top Canadian betting sites for players based in other provinces. The three top brands are the same in both lists, as they each operate in both environments. |
Whether it's a warm-up test match in advance of a bigger event, or the actual matches within the big rugby events, this is where we keep International rugby match odds as aggregated from providers within the Canadian context. These odds may come from the matches within Six Nations or from the Rugby World Cup. If you want Six Nations winner odds or Rugby World Cup winner odds, we keep these futures markets info on their own pages.
Match Result Betting (3-way)
Here, one is betting on an International match result; a Home Team victory, a draw, or an Away Team victory - there is no handicap. Favourites and underdogs are determined solely by the odds pricing. In some cases you may see this presented in a 1X2 format similar to soccer match betting.
Handicap (3-way)
For International Rugby Union matches, the point handicap is an effort by the bookmaker to offer odds prices that are similar for a bet on either team to win. A point handicap essentially means that the game does not start at a score of 0-0. The favoured team must score enough points to overcome this handicap in order to be declared the winner on the wager. From the perspective of the underdog, the handicap may be viewed as a head start on points toward winning the game, with regard to the wager. For example if the spread is 12 points, the favoured team will need to win by 13 points for a bet on them to be considered a winning bet. The underdog can lose the game by as many as 11 points and still be declared the winner with regard to the bet. If the favourite wins by exactly 12 points, the ‘Draw’ result will be the winning outcome for the purposes of the wager.
In decimal odds format, used above, simply multiply the stake amount by the decimal odds price to understand the full amount that would be returned on a win, including the stake amount. For example, if one wagered $100 at a price of 4.45, the total return would be $445, a profit of $345.
For American odds format, keep in mind the difference between positive and negative expressions. Odds below even-money are always listed with a negative number. When negative, the odds price expresses how much one needs to wager in order to return a profit of $100 (you are not required to bet $100, is is just how odds are expressed). For example, if New Zealand is favoured heavily, one might see a figure of -325. This means that a stake of $325 is required for a potential profit of $100 and a total potential return of $425. When one sees a positive odds price in American format, the odds pay above even-money and express how much profit one might gain with a wager of $100. At +125 on Scotland, a winning bet of $100 would return one’s stake plus $125 for a total return of $225.
