ERCC match betting: Ontario vs. the rest of CanadaIf you're looking to bet on European Rugby's top club competition from Canada, know that the country is now a split market for online betting: Ontario and the rest of the country. Single-event betting is now legal, but only Ontario has a locally regulated market. The "grey market" remains open to serve the rest of Canada, but beware scammers. To aid our readers, above our ERCC match odds, if you are in Ontario, we show you our top legal Ontario betting sites. If you are elsewhere, we display our top "Canadian betting sites" for players located in other provinces. Our three top brands are the same regardless of where you are, as they each operate in both environments. |
Match Result Betting (3-way)
Here, one is betting on a Champions Cup match result; a Home Team victory, a draw, or an Away Team victory - there is no handicap. Favourites and underdogs are determined solely by the odds pricing. At some sportsbooks, you may see this presented in a 1X2 format similar to soccer match betting.
Handicap (3-way)
For the European Champions Cup, the point handicap is an effort by the odds maker to offer odds prices that are similar for a bet on either team to win. A point handicap means that for betting purposes, the game does not start at a score of 0-0. The favoured team must score enough points to overcome this handicap in order to be declared the winner for the wager. From the perspective of the underdog, the handicap may be viewed as a head start on points toward winning the game, for the bet. For example if the spread is 14 points, the favoured team will need to win by 15 points for a bet on them to be considered a winning bet. The underdog can lose the game by as many as 13 points and still be declared the winner with regard to the bet. If the favourite wins by exactly 14 points, the ‘Draw’ result will be the winning outcome for the purposes of the wager.
For decimal odds format, which we use above, simply multiply the stake amount by the decimal odds price to see the full amount that would be returned on a win including the stake amount. For example, if one wagered $20 at a price of 1.45, the total return would be $29.00, a profit of $9.
For American odds format, keep in mind the difference between positive and negative expressions. Odds below even-money are always listed with a negative number. When negative, the odds price expresses how much one needs to wager in order to return a profit of $100. For example, if a club is favoured to win a match, one might see a figure of -225. This means that a stake of $225 is required for a potential profit of $100 for a total potential return of $325. (This is not a requirement for a bet, just an expression of the odds.) When one sees a positive odds price in American format, the odds shall pay above even-money and express how much profit one might gain with a wager of $100. At +145, a winning bet of $100 would return one’s stake plus $145 for a total return of $245.
